HISTORY

 

What is PVC?

 

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is one of the oldest, most advanced, used and studied plastic nowadays.

 

 

Justus Von Liebig (Synthesized Vinyl Chloride, basis for PVC, in 1835)

 

1835: Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) was synthesized in the laboratory for the first time by Justus Von Liebig.

 

1839: Victor Regnault publishes his observations about the appearance of a white powder, formed when VCM was exposed to sunlight inside a closed flask .

 

1860: Hoffman publishes a note on the obtention of Polyvinyl bromide.

 

1872: Barman/Baumann synthesizes Polyvinyl chloride.

 

1912: Fritz Klate discovers the basis for industrial manufacturing of PVC.

 

1929: United States manufacture the first commercial product made of PVC.

 

1930: The German industry begins PVC manufacturing.

 

1940: England begins commercialization of PVC .

 

1950: Argentina begins manufacturing and commercialization of PVC products.

 

1956: Solvay begins manufacturing of PVC in Brazil (Solvay, at that time, was known as Eletrocloro; today it is named Solvay Indupa do Brasil).

 

1961: Indupa S.A. begins PVC manufacturing in Cinco Saltos, Province of Rio Negro, Argentina.
