PAPER MAKING
Caustis soda is today inseparable from the processes for the manufacture and whitening of paper pulp. Caustic soda fulfills a specfic role in the whitening of paper pulp: it activates the action of the hydrogen eroxide as in the reaction:
H2O2+OH OOH+H2O

The perhydroxyl ion formed by this reaction is a mild oxidant. Which allows effective whitening of the paper pulp without any degradation whatsoever of the paper’s fibres.
