Clothing

PVC is no stranger to the clothing industry. Employed for its waterproof qualities and aesthetic versatility, it is commonly used in footwear, coats, sporting gear and accessories.

Boots - A Step Ahead

When manufacturers are in need of hard wearing leatherette that is supple and doesn't lose its shape easily, they rely on the qualities of PVC. Plasticized PVC (suspension type resins) can also be used to produce soft semi-rigid soles, thanks to its ability to withstand all weather conditions, resistance to abrasion and antistatic properties.

The coating technique is used to manufacture boots from PVC pastes. Compact or cellular injection of suspension type resins are used to produce soles.

Shoes - Putting One’s Best Foot Forward

Increasingly PVC is used to manufacture shoes, contributing to the creation of hard-wearing yet supple leatherette that doesn't easily lose its shape. PVC is also ideal for manufacturing stiffeners for dress shoes. And plasticized PVC (suspension type resins) can be used to produce soft to semi-rigid soles - particularly for sports shoes. Plasticized PVC can withstand all of weather conditions, has antistatic properties and is resistant to abrasion.

Sport & Fashion Garments - Ready to Wear

The clothing industry has a growing love affair with avant-garde fashions and specialized clothing made from plasticized PVC-coated fabrics. PVC is particularly well regarded for its ruggedness and ability to be transformed into a wide range of colors and patterns.

Coated synthetic fabrics are used to produce a range of athletic and fashion items.

Textile & Artificial Leather - A Chameleon

Plasticized PVC-coated fabrics are used for specialized clothing and avant-garde fashion designs. PVC is particularly valued for its sturdiness and its ability to lend itself to a wide range of colors and designs.

Home, Lawn & Garden

PVC has many uses in the garden, from hoses to lawn furniture. Thanks to its durability, PVC withstands the outdoor elements and, better yet, it’s easy to maintain.

Garden Furniture - A Wonderful Garden Companion

Rigid PVC is a perfect garden companion. Most often it’s used to manufacture garden furniture and accessories, thanks to the fact that it holds up in all weather conditions, and can be cleaned and maintained. It can even be printed on, making it convenient for producing color-coded PVC handles for garden tools.

Garden furniture is manufactured by extruding profiles while the coating technique is used to make PVC handles for garden tools. Some PVC coated fabrics can be used to make armchairs and deck chairs, not only will they be easy to maintain, but their attractive appearance will be easy on the eyes!

Garden Gloves - Handy Protection

Garden gloves or often made of PVC, thanks to its suppleness and hypoallergenic qualities. Gloves are manufactured by a process known as dip forming or molding, generally on cotton or synthetic fabrics.

Garden Hoses - Spray Time

Because of its suppleness, transparency, resistance to low temperatures, UV characteristics and ability to withstand adverse weather conditions, plasticized PVC is a leading choice for the manufacture of garden hoses.

Garden hoses are manufactured by extrusion, and sometimes co-extruded with a reinforced fabric. These composite materials can now be recycled with the Vinyloop process.

Upholstery - It’s Covered

Upholstery manufactured from rigid PVC (suspension type resin benefits from its excellent surface finish, fine mechanical properties, and easy maintenance and cleaning properties. Plasticized PVC can be used to produce elegant and comfortable imitation leather, and is valued for its sturdiness, excellent surface finish and resistance both to stains and wear and tear.

An additional bonus is the almost limitless range of designs it enables, thanks to the ease with which it can be personalized with printed motifs or decorated films. The extrusion or co-extrusion of profiles and panels made with suspension-type resins is used to manufacture upholstery products. The coating of cotton or synthetic fabrics is used for paste PVC.

When it comes to sports and leisure, athletic footwear isn’t the only thing made of PVC. PVC can be found covering and coating a wide range of sporting equipment, for use in everything from football and golf to sailing. Non-toxic PVC is also a material of choice for lightweight and safe children play goods.

Leisure Boats - Safe at Sea

Plasticized PVC is well suited for manufacturing protective strips for the sides of leisure boats. It has superior mechanical properties, is abrasion-resistant and can withstand the challenging conditions of marine environments.

Protective strips for the sides of boats are manufactured by extrusion. Fenders to protect the sides of boats are manufactured by rotomolding.

Toys - Fun and Safe

Buckets and spades, 'rubber' rings, building blocks, dolls, balls and cars – all are possible with plasticized PVC. The fact that it’s non-toxic, supple, has good mechanical properties and can be manipulated into many different shapes and colors makes it an ideal choice.

The use of phthalates in soft PVC toys for children under 36 months, who often place such toys in their mouths, provoked a controversial debate. This ended in Europe with a ban on these specific items, due to the absence of an agreed test method to evaluate the migration of phthalates.

PVC toys are manufactured by slush or rotational molding (emulsion-type resins) or by injection (suspension-type resins).

Luggage - PVC Goes the Distance

Rigid, suspension-type PVC is used to manufacture luggage frames, while plasticized suspension-type PVC is used for handles. PVC is particularly cherished for its heavy stress and stain resistance. Plasticized PVC (emulsion-type) can also be used to produce rigid imitation leather, which is well suited for the manufacture of luggage casings due to its excellent surface finish and resistance to stains. The wide array of designs that can be created is an additional bonus.

Luggage frames are produced by extrusion, while over-molding by injection is used for handles. Emulsion-type PVC resins are used to manufacture imitation leather by coating cotton or synthetic fabrics.

Stationary

Flexible, durable, affordable to produce and easy to print on, PVC is the most popular material for office files, credit and debit cards.

Bank & Credits Cards - High Value PVC

A bank or credit card's magnetic strip or chip rests on a PVC base. Rigid or semi-rigid PVC is a top choice for this type of application, thanks to its sturdiness and flexibility, its compatibility with other thermoplastics and low tendency to form fish-eyes.

Bank and credit cards are manufactured by calendaring, or by the die-flat extrusion of sheets.

Stationary - File This Under Fantastic

Crystal-clear rigid, colored rigid or semi-rigid PVC sheets are widely used to make covers, folders and other stationery articles, due to their high gloss finish, excellent surface qualities and low tendency to form fish eyes. PVC resins are also ideal for coating fabric, felt or cardboard.

PVC stationery items are manufactured either by calendaring or by extrusion using flat dies.
