PVC contributes greatly to the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of construction materials. Flame retardant and able to withstand all forms of weather, it’s the most widely used polymer in construction applications.

Window Frames & Sealings - Shutting out the Elements

PVC is hands-down the most frequently used material for the manufacture of window frames. Available in a range of colors and stylistic treatments, they are resistant to UV rays and poor weather conditions and are virtually maintenance free. On a more practical lever, they are also easy to fit and maintain and provide excellent heat insulation.

PVC frames can be welded, glued or mechanically assembled. PVC resins also have high intrinsic thermal stability, improved impact properties (by using impact modifiers and/or PVC resins from the emulsion process), reduced sensitivity to moisture and flame-retardancy, and are very easy for gelling and processing.

Plasticized PVC is used to manufacture window seals. The product’s flexibility means that a variety of seals of different strengths can be produced, all offering excellent weatherproof qualities.

Window seals are manufactured by extruding or co-extruding of profiles or over-molded injection parts

Rollers Shutters - Easy to Fit Easy to Maintain

PVC is frequently used to create building rollers and shutters. Available in a wide range of colors, they are resistant to UV rays and poor weather conditions and are virtually maintenance free. They are also easy to fit and provide excellent heat and sound insulation.

Solvay’s PVC resins used for rollers and shutters have the following fundamental mechanical properties: high intrinsic thermal stability, very easy gelling and high speed processing, improved impact properties (by using impact modifiers and/or PVC resins from the emulsion process), reduced sensitivity to moisture and flame-retardancy. Polyurethane Sealants - A Sealant of Approval

Polyurethane elastomeric systems are commonly used in the working joints between most substrates found in construction. A chemical solution with excellent non-sagging properties, this elastomeric material is ideal for both horizontal and vertical applications. It’s PVC which ensures its non-sagging consistency. Very specific PVC grades with suitable chemical compositions must therefore be used to avoid side effects during the polyurethane's polymerization.

Fences - Bolder Borders

High quality fences are often manufactured from rigid PVC, renowned for its excellent mechanical properties, durability, resistance to moisture and atmospheric agents, and resistance to ultraviolet light.

The extrusion process is used to manufacture fences and safety palisades, and the injection process to manufacture caps and fittings.

Tarpaulins - All-Weather Protection

Made from plasticized PVC, tarpaulins offer first-rate protection against atmospheric agents and stains and are able to withstand the most adverse of weather conditions.

Tarpaulins made from 300 series resins are manufactured by the coating or dip coating (for the impregnation layer) of polyester fabrics (impregnation and upper layer). Those using 200 series resins (suspension process) are made by calendaring or extrusion processes, using flat die.

Plasticized PVC is used to manufacture roof insulation sheets, thanks to its durability and excellent weathering properties. To manufacture this product, the calendaring or extrusion process is applied to the appropriate resins using flat dies.

Fuse Boxes - Much Needed Insulation

Fuse boxes are often made from rigid PVC, thanks to its exceptional insulation properties, flame and heat resistance, quality surface finish, scratch-resistance and durability.

Waterproof Membranes

Waterproof membranes are frequently made from flexible PVC, given its excellent resistance to weathering in outdoor conditions.

The membranes made from 300 series resins are manufactured by coating natural or synthetic fabrics (impregnation layer and upper layer). Using the 200 series resins (suspension process), the membranes are made by the calendaring or extrusion process using flat dies.

Pipes

PVC Construction Pipes
